Brad Hoelscher – We Lost our Dear Leader

Our Raleigh ISSA chapter stands on the shoulders of giants. One of those giants is Brad Hoelscher. Brad served the Raleigh ISSA faithfully as President for many years. His efforts helped to shape what the chapter is today.
It is difficult at best to articulate the sadness felt for the lost of our dear colleague and friend. Brad’s name, contributions, and reputation will echo as the chapter continues to thrive as a result of his kindness and hard work.
Thank you for everything Colonel Brad. He leaves behind a fine ISSA chapter. I was glad to have made it down to the Raleigh chapter for one of your conferences several years ago. I also found working with Brad to be inspiring while at Cybertrust and at Verizon. Always supportive, always willing to share guidance. Thank you for your service, and thank you for your inspiration, Brad. Thank you for your contributions to our industry, and for inspiring the next generation of infoSec professionals to come after us.
What I’ll remember the most about Brad was how he so easily found ways to show how much he cared for others. When I think back over Brad’s service as our leader, it seems that at his core, he always sought ways to benefit the group, to find a path through the choices that led towards bringing us together. I still benefit from the opportunities he gave us to speak at meetings, to share what we’d learned and to learn from others.
I will forever remember Brad’s welcoming smile and handshake. He set the ground work for what the Raleigh ISSA Chapter is today. I’ll never forget the same BBQ which we had every single meeting and also the visiting Australian speaker who commented, “I am not sure what the fluorescent yellow stuff is (referring to the bright yellow coleslaw), but your BBQ is very good!”.
I can’t believe Brad is gone. We had many wide-ranging conversations about many topics. He will be missed greatly. Condolences to his family.
can’t believe Brad is gone, I last saw him at our chapter meeting in August. We will relly miss him. Condolence to his family
Brad is one of the original founders who introduced me to the ISSA Raleigh chapter at a trade show in April 2007. Today I am a member who will always be grateful for the door he opened for me.
Blessings for his family.
I will miss him always.
It is hard to imagine Raleigh ISSA without Brad – his stories, his humor, his upbeat, positive outlook for life. He will be dearly missed.
Condolences to his loved and close ones.
Brad was president when I first joined Raleigh ISSA. He was welcoming, respectful, and caring. I appreciated him for making me to feel at home in an unfamiliar space.
He will be missed.
Peace and Blessings to the Hoelscher Family
